One-day workshop with Julie Anderson

9:30 am to 4:30 pm
$100 plus $30 materials
(WhitPrint members: $90 plus $30 materials)

About This Workshop

This class is perfect for both experienced gel pad users and newbies. We will review the basics of  using a gel plate to create monotypes and image transfers on paper with acrylic paint, and then explore different ways to use the prints in mixed media collages, and on objects.

The collaborative format of the class will include demos to show you many different gel pad techniques, happy accidents and “crazy ideas” that Julie has developed over the years, like covering a small table or large ornaments and wire sculpture  in gel-printed tissue paper! We’ll build in time to practice, play, and let your own creativity flow.  We will explore mark-making with found objects, melted Tyvek, hand-cut paper and laser cut canvas stencils, and print on several varieties of paper.

All supplies and materials will be provided, including access to previously used class gel pads that have been cleaned with hand sanitizer, but if you’d like to order your own “fresh” gelli pad to keep, check in with local art supply stores,  Michael’s, Amazon, or at gelliarts.com

Julie will also provide basic paper, some tissue and deli paper, old books, acrylic paint, puff paint, stamp pads, found objects for mark-making,  magazines for image transfer and two 8.5” x 11” canvas boards per person to use for collage if you wish. Students are encouraged to bring their own supplies to enhance their finished collage projects including specialty papers (rice paper is lovely!)  Any found objects you bring for mark-making should not include sharp edges, which can make a permanent mark on the gel pad.

Studio Hygiene
Although there is no longer a State of Oregon requirement for indoor masking, WhitPrint continues to be considerate of studio users who may have ongoing concerns for reasons of existing health issues or advancing years. Therefore, we ask that all studio members, workshop participants, instructors, and visiting artists have a mask available and use it in crowded indoor spaces. We also ask everyone to be considerate of others and respect their comfort level regarding Covid.
