Two-day workshop with Marcy Baker
Saturday May 20 - Sunday May 21, 2023
10am – 4pm
$180 plus $35 materials fee ($18 discount for WhitPrit members)

About the Workshop
Monotype printmaking is an immediate and versatile process. The pochoir method, using stencils cut from card stock, is especially spontaneous. Stencils are inked in solid colors and layered face up on an inked Plexiglas plate. This first print is quite graphic with bold shapes and colors. Next the stencils are removed from the plate, turned over and again layered on the ghost ink remaining on the plate. This is when the magic begins - with unpredictable patterns emerging as a result of the layering process. The flipping, layering and reprinting continues - with each new print a bit more subtle than the previous one. The stencils and plate are re-inked as needed.

We will start each day by creating a selection of stencils with a variety of shape and scale. Students should bring sketches / ideas for stencils - simple forms are fine. All tools and materials for this workshop are provided, including Stonehenge paper quarter sheets, 8” x 10” Plexiglas plate, oil based ink, brayers, modifiers and materials for making stencils. All experience levels are welcome.
