Fundamentals of Relief Printing - June 27 2015

One-day workshop with Tanya Scott
Saturday June 27 2015
10:00 am to 5:00 pm (with a one-hour lunch break)

This workshop is intended to inform you of the process of relief printmaking from start to finish. We will begin with an overview of the materials, safety, and techniques necessary to create a successful print. Through the duration of the day you will create a texture plate utilizing each of your tools as to give you a feel for the possibilities that each tool possesses, as well as a reference guide for your final print. After lunch we will transfer our images to our 4x6 linoleum plates, complete the carving process and finish the day with a run through of your plates through the press. You will leave the workshop with a completed plate and print and a basic understanding of the printmaking process.

The workshop fee covers all materials other than carving tools. (You can purchase Speedball linoleum carving tools or Niji wood carving tools at Oregon Art Supply. Both work great and are under $20.)

Materials Provided: Press, ink, brayers, paper, one 3x4 unmounted linoleum plate, one 4x6 unmounted linoleum plate, non-slip mat, sharpies, and tracing and transfer paper.

Please bring a 4x6 image of a simple landscape or of a simple print by an artist you admire to transfer to your linoleum plate.

Lunch is not provided. You can bring your lunch and eat it in the courtyard, or pop out to one of the many fine eating establishments in the neighborhood.
