About the Workshop

Intaglio Printmaking Techniques is a two-day workshop in two sections: Line Etching and Techniques in Aquatint. Each section is one day, and may be taken individually or together. Taught by local artist and educator Bryan Putnam, this course offers something for both beginners and intermediate printmakers. If you participated in Bryan's workshop last August, this is a good opportunity to refine what you learned and add new methods to your repertoire.

The workshop will cover a broad range of intaglio printmaking skills using copper plate: plate preparation, press work, line etching, and several techniques in aquatint including spit bite, sugar lift, stage etching, and more. These two days will present these techniques through hands-on learning, demonstrations, and discussions.

All materials will be provided. It is recommended that you be ready to take notes and bring a sketch or photograph of an image that you would like to produce during the workshop.  Expect a fast paced, fun course that will give you a lot of insight into the art of intaglio printmaking.

About the Instructor

Bryan Putnam is a local artist with a deep love of the print arts. He began his working in printmaking as an undergrad with the artist Scott Kolbo and continued his education at UO, studying with Charlene Liu and other talented faculty. After receiving his MFA in 2014, Bryan stayed on to teach printmaking and drawing full time at the University of Oregon. His work has been shown in various regional galleries and museums over the past few years. In 2014 he was the youngest artist included in 'Ink This: Contemporary Printmaking in the Northwest' at the Tacoma Art Museum.
