About the Workshop

Combining monotype with encaustic’s textural elements is a process that explodes beyond the boundaries of printmaking! Matrices of wax are built onto plexiglass, then we apply water based non-toxic Akua inks, wipe free the excess ink, and run it through an intaglio press to be printed on paper. These techniques can produce subtle and mysterious marks, allowing for variable prints or editions.

Day 1: Beginning Encaustic Painting; We cover the rudiments of encaustic methods & tools and apply white wax onto a plexiglass plate for textured collagaphs ready for color application.

Day 2: Printing collagraphs and mono prints; We take it to a whole new level to produce monotypes from our encaustic plates. We will apply water based inks, painting or rolling them onto the plates, then print them using an etching press. The possible combinations of encaustic texture and printmaking are endless!

Workshop fee includes 4 re-usable plexi plates, two sheets of proofing paper, non-archival paper, encaustic supplies, tarlatan and printing inks. We have paper available for purchase.
