Maude Kerns Art Center

Maude Kerns Art Center bought Whiteaker Printmakers from the previous owners in 2024 and has been continuing their work to support the printmaking community since then! Founded in 1950 by a group of local artists including Maude Irvine Kerns, the Maude Kerns Art Center is a non-profit community center for the visual arts.

Current Staff at Whiteaker Printmakers

Kiley Kuntz is the current Studio Director
Kiley studied Illustration and Printmaking at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) from 2019-2024. She worked as a Studio monitor for SCAD’s Printmaking studio for three years, and has tried a bit of every printmaking technique. Now Kiley dedicates her time to running Whiteaker Printmakers’ studio and supporting the printmaking community.

Fine Arts Brigade

Fine Arts Brigade was the previous non-profit organization that did business as Whiteaker Printmakers. FAB’s mission was to preserve and promote the practice of traditional fine-arts printmaking through studio access, education, exhibitions, and related endeavors.

History

Whiteaker Printmakers started out in 2015 as a small business, offering printmaking workshops and 24-hour member access to a well-equipped printmaking studio. In 2017 the Fine Arts Brigade 501(c)(3) organization was formed to operate Whiteaker Printmakers as a non-profit. In 2024, Maude Kerns Art Center bought Whiteaker Printmakers to continue the printmaking community in Eugene through Whiteaker Printmakers!Current WhitPrint programs include workshops, studio memberships, membership grants, yearly print exchanges, online fundraising auctions, gallery shows, and a variety of other studio and community events.

Founders of FAB

  • Heather Halpern, Previously President and Executive Director
    Heather is a practicing professional artist focusing on printmaking. She ran the Whiteaker Printmakers studio and oversaw its programs. Currently, Heather continues to be a member and is focused on creating her own art!

  • Paul Halpern, Previous Treasurer
    Paul was the back office behind FAB and WhitPrint. Recently retired from a career in electronic hardware design, Paul still voluenteers at WhitPrint and offers to be WhitPrint's handyman and carpenter.

  • Laura Wingerd, Previous Secretary
    Laura is a retiree from the computer software industry. Currently devoted to making art, she kept her hand in high tech by managing the whitprint.com website and continues to help with the Emerald Print Exchange.
